Why an online course?

The great things about an online course are:

  • You can participate from the comfort of your own home.
  • You don't need to spend time and money sorting out childcare.
  • You get to connect with and make friends with people from all around the world!
  • You save time on travel (and the environment will thank you for this too!).

What does an online course look like?

  • On each course is a group of maximum 10 participants who will meet, via tele-class and webinar, 5 times over the course of 5 weeks.
  • You will become a member of the Create A Book For A Child social network and be a part of a private group within the network that will be set up just for the participants on your course.
  • The Create A Book For A Child social network will provide you with the opportunity to share your work with each other and support each other throughout the creative process (it will also enable you to keep in touch with friends from the course once the course is over).
  • You will have unlimited email access to me throughout the course should you have any questions between classes.

Will I have tasks to complete between classes?

Yes! After each class you will be assigned tasks. You will be expected to dedicate at minimum one hour to creating your book each week. If you do this you are sure to have a finished bound book in your hands by the end of the course. The tasks are fun and straight forward so they won't feel like doing 'homework' (and as I have already mentioned, I'll give you some tips on how to easily find the time.)

Are there certain technical skills and things I will need to be able to take part in an online course?

Firstly, I'd like to reassure you that up until a year ago I was afraid of computers so I understand some of you may be afraid you won't have the technical skills and things necessary to take part.

There are a few very basic technical elements of the online course. To find out if you will be comfortable with them and able to meet them simply answer these quesions:

  • Do you have access to a digital camera or a scanner?
  • Do you occassionally upload photos from your camera to your computer?
  • Have you ever sent anyone a photo via email?
  • Do you have a telephone (landline or Skype?)
  • Do you have internet acess at home and are you able to easily view online videos (such as from YouTube) from your computer without out interruption?
  • Have you ever used a social networking site such as Facebook?

If you answered yes to these questions you will have no problem taking part in an online course.

Will I need to spend lots of money on art materials?

No! One of the really great things about creating a storybook for your child is you don't need to go out and buy expensive materials.  Infact most of the materials you will need you probably already have at home.  It is totally up to you how much money you want to invest in art materials.

Are there any children's books I will need to be familiar with?

When you enroll in a course I will send you a list of children's books  I would like you to choose from to have as a reference point as we work through the course.  There is no need to spend any money on books though (unless you want to), you should be able to find the titles I mention in your local library!

“The things I liked best about taking Nina's course were that I finally had the chance to do something I had been thinking about for a long time, I learnt how how to structure my story, the classes were fun and the company was great”.
